Frio Nature Conservancy, Inc., based in Aransas Pass, Texas in 2004 began taking samples of bat droppings and sending them to a Canadian lab for DNA testing. The lab checked (DNA) for the presence of infected mosquitoes. This technology along with GIS radar imagery enables FNC to track the bat and mosquito population and with DNA can determine the risk factor of infested mosquitoes at a rate far greater than ever before. This technology was discontinued in 2006 as the location of the vector mosquito could not be identified. Today, with our current technology (Radar and other Satellite Technology plus DNA evidenced-based Technology reaffirmation), we are able to track the emergence of the early evening (Dust to Dawn) vector mosquito IN REAL TIME from their Breeding Pools and provide Target Specific Data for working with community experts and public officials. FNC targets the vector mosquito's natural vulnerabilities to allow for a safer less toxic means of controlling this threat. |
